![]() ![]() Peep show I guess you'd call cringe comedy. Arrested Development is another, for being the best show I'm aware of in terms of capitalising on the serialised format for comedy. The Simpsons is one for it's insane level or writing, consistency and just generally them phenomenon it became. I consider Peep show one of the three best comedies I've ever seen. I did show it to my parents and they loved it though. I'm not sure how many older people are connected enough to even know about its existence. It's hard to find truly ground-breaking television, but I think Peep Show and more recently Utopia (just finished the first season) have shown that the Brits still have many excellent ideas.ĮDIT: As an aside, yeah, a decent amount (~20%) of my friends know about and like the show, but we're mostly college aged kids. ![]() It would take me a long time to think about and write an actual review of the show and comparing it to American comedy, but I love the contrast between Mark's extreme pessimism and self-consciousness and Jeremy's optimism and not understanding consequences. 99% of the comedy is accessible to Americans, so it's negligible. There are a few cultural jokes I don't get (who the fuck is Bez?), but that doesn't take away from the overall brilliance of the show. Peep Show is my favorite British comedy, right above IT Crowd, and just as good as my favorite American comedies - Seinfeld, 30 Rock, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
